BUMP OF CHICKEN/Tentai Kansoku
Tentai Kansoku
(Astronomical Observation)
Two a.m. at the railway crossing, telescope on my shoulder
The radio tied to my belt says it's not supposed to rain
You came two minutes later, loaded down with too much stuff
Shall we start our astronomical observation? Searching for a comet
It was all I could do not to get swallowed up in the darkness
On that day I tried to hold your trembling hand
I peered into the telescope to try and see the invisible
And a host of voices were born, tearing through the silence
Though tomorrow was calling us, we didn't answer
You and I chased that comet called "now"
Without realizing it, I'm always searching for something
Like the definition of happiness or a place for sorrow
From birth til death, I'm always searching
Now, shall we start our astronomical observation? Searching for a comet
I remember everything we found
Even the pain of not being able to hold your trembling hand
I peered into the telescope to try and know the unknowable
Searching for a faint light in the darkness
And I still remember the pain I knew then
All by myself, I'm still chasing that comet called "now"
As I got taller, there were more things I wanted to tell you
I had so many unaddressed letters, the pile was unstable
I'm doing fine and don't have many worries
There's just one thing I remember now
It rained despite the weather report and you were nearly crying
On that day I couldn't hold your trembling hand
I picked up the telescope again, having overlooked the visible
I raced back home through the silent dark
And the pain I knew then still supports me
All by myself, I'm still chasing that comet called "now"
I pick up the telescope again, wanting to see you once more
At two a.m., I race to the railway crossing just like before
Shall we start our astronomical observation? Even if you don't come two minutes later
We'll both be chasing that comet called "now"
